Ask Your Doctor to Refer You to Sensible MRI
Frequently Asked MRI Questions
An MRI provides better “soft tissue” contrast and provides the primary care provider with more accurate information for diagnosis.
At most medical centers, an MRI can range from $2,500 to $8,000. The self-pay rate for an MRI scan at Sensible MRI will range from $700 to $850, depending on what specifics the primary care provider has ordered. Each MRI may be performed differently, depending upon what the MRI is targeting and whether contrast material is required for proper imaging.
Yes! Sensible MRI meets the same high standards as the larger medical centers – with the added bonuses of prompt scheduling, easy access, personal care, and results back to your primary healthcare provider within 1 to 2 business days. Our MRI reports are completed by board-certified radiologists who have a high level of expertise and knowledge in their respective specialties. This gives your primary healthcare provider confidence in the accuracy of their diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
An MRI can detect certain cancers, brain and spinal cord tumors, nerve damage, injuries and abnormalities of the joints, such as the back and knee. The MRI can also differentiate between fat, water, muscle, and other soft tissues which facilitates a more accurate analysis of existing conditions of various abdominal organs.
An MRI typically lasts between 15 to 90 minutes, depending upon the size of the area being scanned and also the number of images being taken.
You will meet with the MRI technician, who will go through a pre-scan checklist to assure that you are properly prepared for the MRI scan. The main concern is to identify any possible magnetic metals on your person, because they cannot be present in the MRI room.
Remove all metal from your body (rings, chains, ear rings, etc.) and from your clothing. Do not apply make-up, deodorant, perfume, or body lotions before your MRI (These items could contain metals that might interfere with the magnetic field and distort the image). The good news is that an MRI is a painless procedure. However, there is some noise generated while the machine is in operation. The technician will provide you disposable ear plugs to minimize the sound.
Normally, your primary care provider will have your MRI radiology reports in 1-2 business days.
In some cases a patient's MRI scan may require a contrast material, to enhance the imaging under particular circumstances. It is a liquid administered in an IV which is placed in your hand or arm.
An MRI machine does not emit radiation. The scanner uses magnetic energy and radio waves to create images of your organs and tissues.
